historic preservation

This Los Feliz house was originally the model home for a 1930s residential development and had slid down the hill in a landslide only a year after construction due to the canyon’s hydrological conditions. The home was then placed onto stilts, a groundbreaking architectural feat of the time. Due to the integrity of this renovation and our scrupulous preservation of its historic value, this 1938 home qualified for the Mills Act. Along with our contractor, Bjorn Zetterberg, we restored the home for our client, preserving the house’s original character and plaster details, while also dramatically improving outdoor access to the expansive triple-lot property. The restoration also required extensive rebuilding of the foundations and waterproofing of the site, and a seasonal stream still runs below the house today.
